The Therapy Space
Based in Esher and London Bridge supporting adults coping with a range of concerns and struggles.
Told it's a years-long wait, or quoted £595–£2,095 by a clinic you've never heard of? There are two credible ways to be assessed at 13 Church Street: NHS-funded through Right to Choose at Skylight Psychiatry — adults 18+, with a GP referral — or privately at Heart & Mind Clinic — adults and children, no referral needed. Compare what each involves, what it costs, and what happens after a diagnosis.
NHS Right to Choose at Skylight Psychiatry (adults 18+) · Private route for adults & children · GP referral or self-referral · In person at 13 Church Street · or call 0345 11 22 300
Each practice at Health Village operates independently and is responsible for its own clinical care.
Yes — two ways. Skylight Psychiatry runs NHS-funded adult ADHD assessments at Health Village through the NHS Right to Choose scheme: no cost to you, arranged by GP referral. Heart & Mind Clinic offers private consultant-psychiatrist assessments for adults and children, booked directly with the clinic. Both assess in person at 13 Church Street; Skylight also assesses by video or at home.
The standard NHS route through your local mental-health service is free and right for many people — but demand is extreme. NHS Digital counted up to 735,157 open referrals that may be awaiting ADHD assessment in December 2025 (management information, not official statistics), and waiting lists in many areas are measured in years. Right to Choose exists for exactly this situation: it is still NHS care, still free — you just choose the provider. clinical review

If you're an adult registered with a GP in England, you have a legal right to choose which provider your NHS referral goes to. That's the whole trick — and it's why Right to Choose ADHD assessments nationally typically take weeks-to-months rather than years. That route runs through Esher. Here's how it actually works, including the parts nobody explains.
Under the NHS Choice Framework and your NHS choices, when your GP makes a first routine referral for a condition like ADHD, you can choose any provider in England that holds an NHS contract for that service. Skylight Psychiatry assesses adults 18+ this way. It doesn't apply if you're already under a service for the same condition, need crisis care, are serving in the armed forces, or are detained under the Mental Health Act — and your GP still decides a referral is clinically appropriate. It's a right to choose where a referral goes, not a right to be referred.
Skylight states it holds a contract with Waveney ICB for adult ADHD diagnostic assessments. Under NHS rules, a provider contracted by one NHS area can lawfully see Right to Choose patients from anywhere in England — that's the mechanism, not a loophole. The assessment itself happens face to face at 13 Church Street, by video, or at your home.
Book a routine GP appointment and say you'd like a referral for an adult ADHD assessment "under NHS Right to Choose, to Skylight Psychiatry". It helps to complete a screening questionnaire (ASRS) beforehand. Then chase it: a referral being sent isn't the same as being accepted, and being accepted isn't the same as being on the waiting list — you complete registration with Skylight after acceptance. practice confirm
If assessment leads to a prescription, Skylight handles the initial medication titration for patients it assessed itself. Longer term, prescribing normally transfers to your GP under a shared-care agreement — and that agreement depends on your GP practice: shared care is voluntary for GPs, so ask about it at your assessment. One honest asymmetry worth knowing: a Right to Choose diagnosis is an NHS diagnosis, while a privately-funded diagnosis can't usually convert to NHS prescribing without re-entering the NHS pathway.
Some NHS areas have temporarily paused new Right to Choose ADHD referrals, and the list changes — check Skylight's site for current status before your GP appointment. Surrey Heartlands, the NHS area covering Esher, is not on Skylight's pause list at the time of writing (checked July 2026). quarterly check If your GP declines an RTC referral you believe you're entitled to, you can raise it with the practice, then your ICB, then the Health Service Ombudsman. An ADHD assessment is never urgent care. If you're in crisis or struggling to keep yourself safe, that comes first: call NHS 111 and choose the mental-health option, or 999 in an emergency. Samaritans are on 116 123, free, day and night.

One honest practical note: the building is a refurbished Victorian property and consulting rooms are up two flights of stairs — if that's a barrier, Skylight assesses by video or at home. Patients come from Esher, Claygate, Cobham, Oxshott, Thames Ditton, Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames.
