How the Esher wound clinic can help

Specialist-nurse-led wound care for patients with chronic, complex or hard-to-heal wounds.

🩺

Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Diabetic Foot Ulcers Diabetic Wound Care Foot Wounds Diabetes Complications
Diabetic foot ulcers carry a real risk of infection and amputation when not managed well, but the right team and the right plan dramatically change outcomes. The Esher clinic offers vascular assessment, evidence-based dressing selection, offloading advice and close monitoring, working alongside the patient's diabetes team or GP. Where podiatry input is needed, cross-referrals into the Health Village podiatry service can be arranged. Patients are encouraged to attend with their existing diabetes care plan so the wound management can be coordinated with their wider diabetes care.

Post-Surgical & Traumatic Wounds

Surgical Wounds Post-Operative Wounds Dehisced Wounds Traumatic Wounds Skin Tears
A wound from surgery, a fall or an accident should heal within a predictable timeframe. When healing stalls, specialist assessment matters. The Esher clinic evaluates dehisced surgical wounds, traumatic injuries, skin tears and post-operative complications, providing a fresh management plan and clear handover back to your surgical or GP team once the wound is on a healing trajectory. The team uses Gentell's Fastcare clinical platform to record progress and share updates with referring clinicians, so the people involved in your wider care stay informed throughout.

Hard-to-Heal & Stalled Wounds

Non-Healing Wounds Hard-to-Heal Wounds Chronic Wounds Second Opinion Stalled Wounds
If a wound has not healed in the timeframe everyone expected, a fresh specialist opinion often changes the picture. The Esher team carries out a full reassessment, reviews dressing choices and underlying wound aetiology, and considers advanced wound care products only when the evidence supports their use. This second-opinion service is well-suited to patients who have been managed in primary care or community settings without reaching healing, including referrals from other clinicians. The team can also visit care homes and patients' own homes across Surrey where clinically appropriate.

Wound Education for Carers

Wound Education Carer Training Care Home Training Community Nurse Training CPD
Family carers, care home staff and community nurses can access Gentell's wound care education programme. Topics include identifying early-stage pressure damage, choosing dressings appropriately, supporting compression therapy at home, and recognising signs of wound infection. Sessions can be delivered in clinic at Esher, at your care setting, or via Gentell University's digital resources. Continuing professional development certificates are available for community and care-home nursing teams, and bespoke training programmes can be designed for care providers supporting larger groups of residents.

Meet Gentell Wound Clinic

Gentell is one of the largest vertically-integrated wound care companies in the world, founded in the United States in 1994 and now operating internationally. The UK arm, Gentell Europe, was established in 2023, with its first specialist wound clinics opening in 2024 across the South East. Gentell provides a wound care service at Health Village Esher as part of this growing network.

The clinical model is built around three components: specialist nurses, proven protocols and rigorous data capture. Gentell’s network of 130 wound care specialists supports patients in care homes, community settings, hospices and residential homes. The same evidence-based protocols are used in the UK, aligned with the NHS Wound Care Strategy Programme, and assessments are recorded through Gentell’s Fastcare clinical platform so progress can be measured and adjustments made early.

The named clinical contact for the Esher service is Daria Tetlak, who joined Gentell in 2025 as a Tissue Viability Nurse supporting the expansion of Gentell’s wound healing clinics across Surrey and surrounding areas. Daria works alongside Director of Nursing Maria Cristina Moon, who oversees clinical standards across Gentell UK. Maria qualified from St Bartholomew School of Nursing at City University and brings over 20 years of NHS clinical experience across primary and secondary care, including research delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The patient-specific model is what sets the service apart. Rather than addressing wounds in isolation, the team carries out holistic assessment, including Doppler and Duplex vascular testing where clinically indicated, identifies the underlying cause of the wound (venous, arterial, diabetic, pressure-related or otherwise), and builds a care plan that is reviewed regularly and adjusted as healing progresses. Patients can self-refer, or be referred by their GP, district nurse, community team or care provider. Where the team identifies a need for surgical, vascular or podiatry input, onward referrals are arranged, including to other Health Village practitioners where appropriate.

Our specialists provide holistic assessments, treatment plans, face-to-face appointments and telehealth consultations, with education running through the heart of everything we do.
